Prince of Peace's trips to Bomalang'ombe, in the Iringa Region of Tanzania

Dar es Salaam to Iringa

Today’s journey took us from Dar es Salaam to Iringa. It’s normally an 8-10 hour drive depending on road construction, and it’s best to not be on the road at night, so we left at 7am. The drive takes us through several different eco-systems and Mikumi Game Park. From a distance we could see giraffe, zebra, elephant and impala, but none were close enough to get good photos. We had a nice lunch of chicken and ‘chips’ (fries) at Tan Swiss outside of Mikumi. Road construction appears to be a universal season. We had several delays when only one lane of traffic was allowed to pass. 11 hours later we arrived at Mlandege Guest House, which is run by one of the local churches. We were greeted by a group of watoto (children) who wanted their picture taken. There was much giggling as they saw themselves on the digital camera screen. The photo shows the group relaxing after dinner at Mlandege.

Enjoying an ice cream treat in the Amsterdam airport. It’s tradition to take a picture of our youth by the cow statue!

The send-off for the Tanzania Travelers was on Sunday. The worship service contained lots of African singing and the children put leaves on a “Baobab Tree” for each traveler to remind them to pray for us during their Vacation Bible School this week. Following the service we held a “packing party” to pack donations of school supplies and t-shirts that we will be bringing with us.

Members of Prince of Peace are preparing for a trip to  Bomalang’ombe, Tanzania, which will take place in June and July 2010.  This will be the 5th official trip from Prince of Peace to our companion congregation in Bomalang’ombe.  We will have the opportunity to create and renew friendships with our brothers and sisters in Bomalang’ombe and to mutually share our faith.  Some of the highlights of the trip will include:

  • Worshiping at Bomalang’ombe and visiting with congregation members
  • Seeing Bomalang’ombe projects such as the widows’ Pig Project and an agricultural test plot
  • Schools and an orphanage
  • Ruaha Game Park
  • Bagamoyo:  UNESCO World Heritage Site

Please keep the travelers and Bomalang’ombe in your prayers, and check back for trip posts!  We will be posting pictures and trip updates as often as we can.
