Bless you Andrew. You impacted my life greatly as a high schooler and I'll always appreciate how you helped me find God and church all around me in the wilderness. May you be at peace.

Andrew,

I know that you are crossing over the Boundary Waters today in God's hands. I received the news of your passing from a co-worker with your cousin Dan.

How, I wish we had been able to meet. I am so glad I was able to share my wedding video with you and that you signed my book "Crossing Boundry Waters". Your story along with "Smithson's Island" by Judith Smithson had such an impact on my life at a time when it needed a push. My 50 mile hike on the Superior Ttrail 12 years ago was my time "to die", to let go and "to live".

Oh, how I wish we had met.

Your words are with me.

In Peace.

Of all the paths you walk in life make sure a few of them are dirt.....

Thank you for continuing to know what you are fighting about and for, and for sharing your wisdom and thoughts with the church, even the church across town, and beyond!
We hold you in prayer here at Gustavus.

Hey Andrew,
I think of you often and pray for you every time...especially on my internship this year I often reflect on the pastor that you are and how much I look up to you and just how much of a positive role model you have been in shaping the type of pastor that I would like to be.

I especially thought of you this past Ash Wednesday, I always picture your face when I think of receiving ashes, and especially this year after I had read your meditation on Ash Wednesday in your Traveling through Lent with Matthew book. I knew that this would be the first time I put ashes on the foreheads of my parishioners and tried to soften those truthful words "remember you are dust and to dust you shall return". I am thankful for the care you took when placing those ashes on my forehead and the kindness in your eyes which also held the promise that dust is not the end, we can have the hope of new life with Christ.

But this year I was also thinking of you, and how those words may sound to you this year. Death seems to be much closer than ever before, I think of you, I am constantly around people this year on my internship who have lost loved ones or are even dying themselves, and our family friend Ben Larson also died this year. So what does it all come down to? I find myself being thankful for loved ones, for seeing that those relationships are the deepest joy and importance in life.

I wanted to thank you for writing these blogs, I'm thankful for your wisdom even from a distance in Las Vegas! My love goes out to you and Patti as everyday I'm working in this church I'm thinking about all you two have taught me about God and living and loving God's creatures and creation.

I actually decided to make sure to travel through lent with you and Matthew this year, using your meditation book. So thanks for that, already its helped me to center myself in this season.

Much love and peace,

Marie

Andrew, this morning as I took my traditional woodswalk looking for the scariest thorn bushes to make the crown of thorns for our Lenten altar, I remembered how you had your traditional Easter eve spending a good part of the night installing the wondrous colorful sunrise spreading out from the cross. (And risking death on the ladder for us all!) I think the process brought you quiet joy, and it brought us all a visual "Resurrection Wow!" on Easter morning. May that feeling still chill and warm you today as the memory of it does for me.
thanks,
Lindy
